Reception Blog – Spring Term 1
They say time flies when you’re having fun, well this must be true as we can’t believe we are at the end of Spring Term 1 already! The children have continued to flourish and settle into school life fantastically. We have been very busy this term looking at exploring lots of different things, for example we looked at weather changes during winter and all about Chinese New Year.
To celebrate Chinese New Year we held a parental engagement workshop during which parents were able to access a range of Chinese activities with their child. Both the parents, staff and children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, it was a fantastic opportunity to share our learning around this topic with parents. We look forward to holding more parental workshops in the upcoming terms.
The children particularly enjoyed reading the story ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, it sparked lots of conversations about senses, being a good friend, following directions and farm animals. We drew our own maps of the farm to protect the fine prize cow and the other animals, we controlled the bee-bot’s around the classroom and recorded the directions we sent them in and we made ladybird biscuits to share with our friends. The children produced some amazing home learning pieces as part of this focus, ranging from farms to individual animals and animal masks. All of the wonderful creations have been displayed on our corridor display to celebrate the children’s hard work.
